The storks bring
the tourists
You may not believe your mother when she says
a stork brought you. Now that you are in the fabled
land, believe me; the storks bring the tourists.
A retired teacher started to give his lessons
in a new and different method proving that he
has not retired totally from the life.
The storks have been visiting free-tree resorts
in his marshy land every year. 5 years ago, he
erected several more 'pole-resorts' with ergonomic
designs. He opened a cafe by them and put everything
in good order for both the storks and the travellers.
If you are going to visit southwestern Turkey,
Bodrum, Marmaris or Fethiye, in particular, and
if you are a person with the camera, take a rest
bite in his place. It is only a few minutes to
Dalyan (the village famous for the Turtle Beach).
As being on the intersection point of three old
continents; Europe, Asia and Africa, a route over
Turkey provides the shortest distance for the
migrating birds. When you examine a traditional
Turkish house, bridge, mosque or fountain, you
may also find a bird house on the facade of the
building. In the Ottoman period, there were several
environment friendly charities. Gurabahane-i Laklakan,
for instance, was a stork hospital. They were
curing the injured storks - unable to migrate
- and looking after them until the next spring.
Stork hospitals are not functioning
any more, but it is true that the storks bring
the tourists.
